Oak
The heartwood varies in colour, but is typically greyish-brown with irregular dark streaks. The sapwood is paler and clearly distinct from the heartwood. European walnut is normally straight-grained, but can be wavy. It has a coarse texture. A clearly defined central core will sometimes produce beautifully figured wood. Walnut crotch, burr (burl) and stumpwood figure can be very attractive.
